We all watch you taking a glimpse of yourself as you walk pass a building that shows your reflection.
We also catch you while you are driving alone moving the rear view mirror in your care to get a better look at yourself or to quickly take your phone out to take a cute picture.
We get it, you want to make sure you look good and sometime you know you look good.
In this article, we will discuss
The outlandish ideology of beauty and what it means in our society
What is the definition of beauty based on the Greeks
How subjective view of beauty affects you
The objective view of beauty which we all are confined to
Short story from a man and women perspective
Harsh fact, by doing this, can make us a bit delusion in the vanity world we live in.
It is also normal to doubt your self-confidence. It’s fine we all do it.
But, before you continue reading this awesome article that is bound to get you building your self-confidence take a moment to tell yourself how amazing and awesome you truly are on the inside.
Because you clearly clicked on this blog you have had to have some doubt or curiosity about yourself) let me just state that we are all beautiful in our own unique way!
Such a clichque thing to say but yes, you read that right.
Since you are here we can admit that we are a bit curious as to why beauty has such standards and what it should be when it is almost forced down our necks everyday.
But, according to the global research that was done by Dove only 4% of women consider themselves to be beautiful.
Would be nice if they would do one again. So according to the research most women would consider themselves to be average looking.
Hmmm, are we just begin modest or is it that how women actually feel? The need to attain a certain level of beauty that most of us never will. I say, out with uniformity and in with individuality!
We need more women who swim against the currents, women who are proud of other women–who are confident and courageous to stand up for each other.
A women who is a complete rebel and who is not afraid to show up! That to me is what makes us beautiful.
Side note: We all have self-doubt at times and that is normal. Surround yourself with positive people who do not bring your insecurities out (we all have them).
“Okay, but seriously, am I beautiful to societies standard …..”
Why you will never be beautiful ‘enough’?
The reason why you will never be beautiful enough (objective view) is because there are just too many preferences and too many people in this world for everyone to think you are beautiful.
Be your own uniqueness and work on the person you are on the inside. This is what matters the most.
The most important aspects of ourselves can not and will never be seen staring back at us in the mirror or the reflection of your sexy self as you walk by Macy’s building on a lovely Sunday morning.
This article aims to answer this question with a birds-eye view by providing you with the difference of perspectives.
What most of our culture finds attractive and how this will not expand into a world-wide view depends on who you ask.
But, first, let's establish some common ground before you continue.
Let’s go over what is beauty actually means by definition.
What is beauty?
There isn’t a “universal definition”
Philosophers have not completely agreed either; the definition has a two sided POV (point of view) – the objective (i.e 1+1=2) and the subjective (your opinion).
Given the complexity of this question it also comes with the existence of and this will continuously keep on changing.
The article will discuss the two point of views and how this impacts you and what you can expect to achieve with a different mindset.
Please keep in mind that beauty means something different even across a plethora of cultures (given a cross-cultural context).
Body scarification is a sign of beauty in other parts of the world, but do we see ourselves going to this extent there are groups and organisations in America that still use this practice for other purposes to this day.
Most of us seem to be highly influenced in the superficiality-vanity of a specific attainable beauty that they feel a need to conform with.
Why else would we be one of the top countries with the most plastic surgery according to International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS).
You are beautiful!
We have also heard the saying, “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”. Well, this is not the case for an objective view.
Why you will most likely never achieve the level of the superficially of beauty that we clearly all notice and see on a daily basis (unless you go under the knife of get work done but even then some people just can not pull this stuff off – too much filler anyone?)
Alright, so the objective view is based on set of observable or verified fact that researchers have gathered.
Or, better yet–the golden ratio rule (yes, this is a real thing) that the Greeks invented.
Woohooo this is when you go into a plastic surgeon office and they tell you everything that is not portioned to your face.
“The ancient greats, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and Plotinus all agreed that beauty was primarily objective—beautiful things really are beautiful regardless of what one or another individual may think or feel” – Sartwell

What is the subjective view?
The subjective view is an opinion or feeling based on individually preferences or perspective.
A quote from the Greek poet Sappho
“Virtue Adorns Beauty” is a direct translation of the phrase in Latin Virtutem Forma Decorat. The idea refers to the observation that one’s true beauty is found in the things we do for others throughout our lives. , “What is beautiful is also good”
Let’s face it, we all have our insecurities. And, considering the advent of social media women have undoubtedly reach a new level of becoming more bombarded with beauty standards leaving them insecure.
Most women can become influenced in many way. We tend to feel a need to want to change ourselves to adapt to what society says is “right” or “beauty standards’ ‘ or aka the golden ratio rule that the Greeks invented.
But when are we going to stop living by a certain ‘norm”.
According to (insert here youtube video) we are all living in a state of a low-grade anxiety; suicide rates have increased, childhood obesity and mental health issues are continuously on the rise.
Why can we just not accept the outside (physical) much more than the inside (personality).
Her Side
“I know it shouldn’t bother me but it does- I want to be beautiful, and I get so jealous that these other girls are born pretty. How do you deal with not being attractive to most men? How do you accept how you look and learn to love yourself regardless?”
Melissa C. Arizona, Phoenix
His Side
“It’s nothing he can put his finger on or describe, really…just that looking at that part of her makes him feel good. He starts wanting to do that more. Then, he notices an expression she makes – could be her genuine belly-laugh, or the way she furrows her brow in concern – and he gets a little flutter in his chest.”
Henry, O.
In retrospect, it does bring some sort of balance–but I’d still prefer everyone out there feeling worthy and beautiful enough without needing to make any alterations.
Fun fact: men actually adore and appreciate women who look more familiar to them.
Conclusion
You are beautiful! The thing is that everyone has their own opinions on what their version of 'beauty' is despite a universal ratio of beauty.
Here is what the article covered:
We covered how the idea of what beauty is has jaded our perception of what it means to us individually.
The definition of beauty as subjective which is your opinion and objective which is more based on the Golden Ratio which the Greeks invented.
Beauty is different considering which culture and region you are located in.
United States is among one of the biggest consumers in plastic or cosmetic enhancements.
Dove conducted a research in regards to how women perceived themselves and a majority of us consider ourselves average. I doubt that. What do you say?
Would you consider yourself average or uniquely beautiful?
